Actually the computer based setup will probably yield easier access to hi-res, so potentially better quality if the rest of the system are up to it. A good DAC aware media play may even utilize the DAC's built in volume control as well (with ESS Sabre 32 based DACs for eg like audio quest dragonfly red/black, pro-ject pre-box s2 digital etc) which is the ideal way to do volume control short of letting your analog pre-amp do it (never let the computer do it if you can avoid it).Ī good quality USB DAC with a clean PSU or at least very good at USB/PSU noise rejection should perform as well as a dedicated streamer with the same DAC chip and output stage and analog side PSU, so I don't see an notable advantage either way sound quality wise. A computer connected via USB to DAC involves only a single sample clock, so no async resampling involved (as would most likely be with SPDIF) and you get complete freedom in choice of USB DAC. I wan't to hear your guys opinion on this. USB that is universal standard on data-streaming. One opinion i have heard that when the fan kicks in, sometime that causes static noises and dedicated streamer is engineered to just deliver sound, vs. When using dedicated streamer (Optical/Coaxial at 24/96KHz) vs. Second question: Is there a difference in sound quality. But my DAC does support DSD256 and would like to use that "sometimes". Cause mostly i will stream Tidal at 16/44.1khz. My personal opinion is that i won't notice a difference. Because most of the streamers (Bluesound Node 2 and Arcam Rplay) feed the DAC through Optical or Coaxial out "only" in 24/96KHz. My existing PC is a Asus Laptop, that sometimes does funky things.
So i need a streamer/or a existing windows laptop/ or MBP for my DAC for headphone usage. I think you guys are mostly feet on the ground, so i guess it's best to ask you guys an opinion on this subject.
